For a number of years I worked on a unique project—a full length novel illustrated with my own paintings and archival photographs. I ended up with an illustrated novel called The Coney Island Book of the Dead, which is as yet unpublished.

I’d done around 40 paintings in this series, two of which have won prizes in art competitions. The artwork was rendered in mixed water media on paper with heavy use of masking and stenciling. All the paintings are 16 by 30 inches.

For the past year and a half I’ve been working on my second novel, The Time Artist, now almost complete.

The Time Artist takes place during the 1968/69 school year at a prestigious art college in New York City. It is part murder mystery, part time-travel adventure, part love story, and part inside look at an exciting time in modern art through the eyes of artists. It is also a meditation on the nature of time.

As soon as I finish this novel I plan to go back to painting.
